Generative AI: Effective Prompting Strategies for GenAI
- Get used to pausing and thinking before turning to AI. Consider: what information do I want to know? Is this the most helpful way to gather this information?
- Is your first gut reaction to type into ChatGPT or Le
- but here is a concise one from UNC that is similar (and, I misremembered! The acronym is CLEAR, which was introduced by Leo Lo in this article)

Assessing Outputs
Using GenAI in Instruction and Research
Tips for everyone:
- To remove an AI output from a GenAI (like Gemini when doing a Google search), include the phrase -ai at the end of your search. For example, you can use Google to search “1993 Day Hall Takeover Cornell -ai” and you will not receive a generative AI response from Gemini.
Tips for instructors:
- Outputs from GenAI prompts are inconsistent. Screen capture, take screenshots, or copy the results you receive while preparing for your instruction sessions. This allows you to avoid having to do so during the session, and reduces the amount of energy consumption for your activity.
Image Analysis
- Distant Viewing Explorer: “an open-access platform that lets you experiment with different computational approaches for image analysis. It’s designed to help researchers and learners understand what various AI models can reveal about images, videos, and visual culture more broadly.” Released in 2025.
